Shop History
Uptown Neon was founded in 1987 by Douglas Solyan. Douglas persevered through the decline of widespread usage of neon in the sign industry and due to his commitment to the craft Uptown Neon is the last operating neon sign shop in Richmond, VA.

Education: BFA in art and Design from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University (2021)
Chloe Kottwitz began apprenticing under Mr. Solyan in August 2021. After his passing in February 2022 Kottwitz purchased the business in April 2023.
Chloe maintains Mr. Solyan’s collection, creates commissioned work as well as unique neon art, and repairs neon signs.
