Uptown Neon
Turquoise Squiggle
Hand Bent Glass Neon, 10.5 x 10.5 x 2.5”, 2025
I bent this glass unit a couple months ago, and as I started to decide how it would be mounted out of the corner of my eye, I caught this white table base. I thought, “there’s no way that this will fit in there.” But I tried… and it miraculously fit perfectly.
Most days when I get to work there is a pattern at my work station. A pattern with words, or specific imagery that I use to carefully map out every bend in order to create the design successfully. With these, I just have a 10.5 x 10.5 box drawn in front of me, and sometimes I don’t even stay within those parameters. They’re exercises in creativity and freedom, reminding me the glass can bend in a multitude of ways.
This piece was designed and made by Chloe Kottwitz and was exhibited in her solo exhibition, Surroundings, at The Black Iris in Richmond,Va from September 5, 2025-September 28th, 2025.
