The first week I was in Mr. Solyan’s shop, I drew out this leaf as a gift for his upstairs tenants who had kindly let me stay in their home while they were away. The work area is filled with rolled-up fabric patterns, each labeled—“palm tree,” “man in the moon,” “guitar,” “Open,” “firecracker.” But this one is labeled “Chloe’s Leaf.”

This piece was designed and made by Chloe Kottwitz and was exhibited in her solo exhibition, Surroundings, at The Black Iris in Richmond,Va from September 5, 2025-September 28th, 2025.
